Small desk hutch
Just finished this one recently. Cherry sides with
curly maple shelves. This was the first project where I tried
my hand at doing housed dadoes with handtools. The rabbet for
the top shelf was cut with a Stanley #78 rabbet plane, and the
dados for the lower shelf had their edges cut with a saw, and
the bulk removed with a chisel and a Stanley #71 router plane.
First time I ever tried doing it this way, and although they aren't
perfect, they're of acceptable quality. Of course, the sides and
shelves were all worked with handtools. The hutch is finished
with a few coats of T&T Danish oil and shellac.
