Lacewood weather station

 

 

Just something I threw together in an afternoon: a weather station made out of Australian lacewood. The picture doesn't really do the wood justice....it has a really funky grain pattern to it. The station is pretty basic, with rounded corners and feet to give it a somewhat Art Deco look. I considered adding some inlay work, but the lacewood is attractive enough that it didn't seem necessary. The weather station was finished with two coats of polymerized tung oil sealer and 12 coats of padded lemon shellac.
